All Aboard – Supporting our Maritime Museum

Programmed team members, supporting vendors, and Queensland Rail representatives

Recently, our Queensland team volunteered to assist the Queensland Maritime Museum (QMM), one of Australia’s largest Maritime Museums.

The museum, which has been in operation for nearly 50 years, is mainly run by veteran volunteers, who have a wealth of knowledge on the Maritime Heritage of Australia and the objects on display in the museum. Our team volunteered to help maintain the facility as the number of veterans available to the museum has been greatly reduced by Covid, resulting in inadequate resources to manage some areas of the site.

Field Day

When better to hold a Field Day (Naval term for Clean-Up Day) than during Facility Management month, in May? The Programmed team first came on-site and scoped out the required work. Identifying several opportunities for improvement, the team created a list and engaged with our local supply network to assist.

From excavation, rubbish removal, road basing, tyre removal and crane hire to move large pieces; the team got to work.

Even Programmed’s Managing Director and Group CEO, Glenn Thompson, came along to inspect the progress made on the day.

Our Queensland team took control of the agreed work area, cleaned up the site and ensured that all materials were disposed of correctly and safely. Programmed then handed the area back to QMM volunteers.

We look forward to continuing our support of the QMM so that the maritime heritage of Australia will live on for future generations.
