Championing social inclusion

Programmed’s Facility Management business has been incorporating social inclusion into our contracts in many ways.

For the start of the Housing ACT contract in 2019, this was formalised with our Social Inclusion Manager, Lynette Graham.

Our Social Inclusion participants share their experiences with us.

The team there work closely with social cohorts in Kippax UnitingCare, local schools and vendors for Housing ACT. Programmed also started a Youth Interchange program with a local high school, assisting in providing school leavers with insight into what working in Trades means as a sustainable career path, and an opportunity to work in trades.

Together with the Canberra Institute of Technology, we developed a program to provide on-site participants with a view of what a day-in-the-life was like for someone working in Trades. Programmed then provided them with training on safety and asbestos and helped them achieve their White Card, enabling them to walk onto a site safely.

The program has proven very successful, with one candidate already onto his plumbing apprenticeship and looking to provide his own friends and family with knowledge towards a sustainable future in work.

Through our partnerships with the social cohorts, we have identified previously disadvantaged individuals within the Housing committee and have provided them with training and introductions to vendors with skill shortages. This was recorded in our video with participants and through an interview with the Canberra Times.

We are very proud of these individuals and the care and empathy shown by all.
