Melbourne Airport achieves ISO 55001 certification in Asset Management

Programmed and Melbourne Airport recently received ISO 55001 certification, a first for an Australian airport. ISO 55001 is the baseline for developing the best approach to asset management and maintenance operations – reducing the risks associated with assets and improving quality assurance for customers and regulators.

Over the last 18 months, Melbourne Airport and Programmed Facility Management have focused on a best practice Asset Management approach and began working to achieve ISO 55001 by engaging BSI in the certification process.

Chris Meehan, Australia Chief Operating Officer at BSI said “Programmed Facility Management should be proud of their accomplishment in achieving certification to ISO 55001, Asset Management System standard. They will be able to continually monitor, reduce risk and manage assets across all operations, ensuring consistent performance and service.”

Accreditation is a significant step in continually improving operations and passenger experience. “With passenger numbers set to increase almost 70 million people per year by 2038, Melbourne Airport, in partnership with Programmed, is focused on stepping forward with operational strategies that improve the traveller experience”, said David Morgan, Head of Utility and Facility Management.

Programmed plans to continue working toward improving asset management systems, which will support the strategic vision of Melbourne Airport.

“Programmed sees the ISO 55001 as a baseline to develop the best approach to Asset Management, Maintenance and Operations for our clients.” Says Graeme Hurn, Chief Executive Officer, Programmed Facility Management. Adding “Improving the Asset Management systems is about creating the best possible journey for passengers.”
