Work experience placement leads to Horticultural Apprenticeship

Throughout this year Programmed hosted a work experience placement for William Wood, a year 11 student from Concordia College. The college is a customer of Programmed and over the years, various business relationships have been established, including one with Robert Gogel the VET / Careers coordinator.

William’s work experience was completed at Waite and North Terrace campus’ working with our grounds maintenance teams in support of his practical learning requirement within his horticultural subject.

”I was lucky to have secured a work experience placement with Programmed when many other students at my school missed out due to COVID-19. I really enjoyed working with the Programmed team and it really opened my eyes to what I wanted to do as a career. I’m excited to be able to start my apprenticeship next year and learn the trade,” said Will.

Through consultation with William’s parents and school, and his successful completion of our pre-employment requirements, William has now joined our university grounds maintenance team as a casual employee.

We have established a flexible working arrangement which will allow William to complete a school-based Certificate 2 in Horticulture at Urrbrae TAFE College. At the commencement of 2021, William will be signed up as a Horticultural Apprentice and will be able to develop his career aspirations further within the industry.
